INDUSTRY LECTURE: Agile Software Development Seminar Scheduled for September 20th, 2006

Wednesday, September 20th is our next seminar in a series of industry lectures to be held at the LogiSolve office over the lunch hour. The seminar “Agile Software Development” will be led by Ken Pronovici.
“Agile” describes a set of general software development practices meant as a more efficient, more flexible replacement for the traditional waterfall software development process. There are a variety of specific Agile methodologies, including Scrum, Extreme Programming and Lean. What all of these methodologies have in common is codified in the Agile Manifesto, signed in 2001 by all of the leaders in the field:
We are uncovering better ways of developing software by doing it and helping others do it.
Through this work we have come to value:
Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
Working software over comprehensive documentation
Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
Responding to change over following a plan
That is, while there is value in the items on the right, we value the items on the left more.
Ken attended the Agile 2006 conference held recently in Minneapolis. In this seminar, Ken will present an overview of Agile methods as well as more specific information taken from several sessions he attended during the week-long Agile conference.
Ken is a LogiSolve consultant with more than nine years of software engineering experience in the health care, insurance, warehousing and airline industries. Ken has experience writing components, libraries and applications in a variety of languages including C, Python and Java/J2EE. Ken is currently assigned as a portal applications technical lead at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota.
